چکیده

Overview Both the technologies and design concepts exist for a new generation of low-energy buildings that outperform today’s typical high-performance buildings. Cultural barriers, however, are a primary inhibitor of the widespread construction of these buildings. This paper first gives examples of existing technologies and design concepts exceeding today’s best practice, followed by successful built examples from Transsolar’s practice. We conclude with a broader discussion of the cultural barriers we believe prevent broader adoption of similar practices.

Robust economic-statistical design of the EWMA-R control charts for phase II linear profile monitoring

Control charts are powerful tools to monitor quality characteristics of services or production processes. However, in some processes, the performance of process or product cannot be controlled by monitoring a characteristic; instead, they require to be controlled by a function that usually refers as a profile. This study suggests employing exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and range ...

A Switchgrass-based Bioethanol Supply Chain Network Design Model under Auto-Regressive Moving Average Demand

Switchgrass is known as one of the best second-generation lignocellulosic biomasses for bioethanol production. Designing efficient switchgrass-based bioethanol supply chain (SBSC) is an essential requirement for commercializing the bioethanol production from switchgrass. This paper presents a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to design SBSC in which bioethanol demand is under auto-r...

Finding the Best Orientation of the Educational Buildings in Hot Arid Regions in Iran, in order to Achieve the Optimum Annual Energy Consumption, Using Computer Simulation (Case Study: a Double Class School in Zahedan)

School buildings forming a large part of public buildings are among the most important consumers of energy in Iran. Given the existing construction conditions, these buildings seem to have considerable potential for energy efficiency if the construction and design methods are reformed. Therefore, numerous researchers have analyzed geometrical factors influencing energy consumption in buildings,...
